A fine artist in the kitchen, Chef Pietro Scotti has turned out culinary masterpieces at his acclaimed Westport restaurant, DaPietro’s, for close to 20 years.
Born in Ischia, Italy, a resort and fishing island on the Mediterranean, Scotti launched his culinary adventure at age 11, working in both the local fish market and a famed hotel kitchen. As a young apprentice, he accompanied chefs to the markets each day and learned to pick the freshest bounty. From there, he traveled to international ports as a seaboard chef, sampling exotic cuisines, flavors and spices. Even while serving in the Italian army, Pietro found himself working in the kitchens, further sharpening his skills. But it was not until he left his island home and literally traveled the seven seas on the San Giusto, an Italian oil tanker, that Pietro immersed himself in the culinary riches of the world.
Over four years, his visits to markets in Biafra, Yokohama, Singapore, Morrocco, and Istanbul (and too many more to mention) brought him in contact with exotic spices and foods. Pietro was mesmerized by the variety of new tastes and incorporated them into his culinary repertoire.
In 1974, it was time for Pietro to plant roots. He crossed the Atlantic Ocean to America and landed a chef’s position in Weston, Connecticut, an area where he could hunt and fish “just like home.” For 10 years, Pietro honed his talents as head chef at the Cobb’s Mill Inn, all the while dreaming of owning his own business.
In 1979, he launched his first entrepreneurial foray, as the chef owner of Winfield’s, a successful delicatessen and catering business that attracted a cult following and garnered terrific word-of-mouth. Still Pietro harbored dreams of presiding over an elegant restaurant of his own. In 1987, he took a chance, opening DaPietro’s on a waterside street lined with antique shops in Westport. He decorated the restaurant’s cozy, jewel-like dining room with plush banquets and framed Hermes scarves. Pietro’s Italian and French fare quickly became the talk of the town - and of reviewers. Zagat gave DaPietro’s a 27 rating for food, calling it “Extraordinary.” And Patricia Brooks of The New York Times granted the restaurant an “Excellent” rating.
When he is not working, Pietro enjoys spending time with his wife, Janine and his two young children, Tomaso and Lucia. The Scottis enjoy entertaining friends at their home on the Saugatuck River in Westport, a community in which they are quite active, serving on a variety of boards and donating their time and resources to many local charities and foundations.

Dinner is served Monday thru Saturday from 5:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Carlos Hernandez has worked hard to court the Fairfield County dining community. On Thursdays and Sundays, bottles of wine are half price and a special menu of nine tapas plus dessert is available for $32. Hernandez also holds monthly wine dinners. We have attended a couple of his Spanish wine dinners, and they have drawn enthusiastic crowds.

What was once a popular neighborhood pizza place in the Clocktower Square, located in a quiet rural corner of Southern Connecticut, is now a thriving contemporary Italian trattoria in the destination town of Monroe. Since 1997, local diners have been guarding this culinary gem as proud parents of the area’s best kept secret. Trattoria Carl Anthony is the brainchild of Executive Chef/Owner Sam DeVellis and his brother Joseph and cousin Idilio.
Upon the success of his families’ first venture, Giove’s Pizza Kitchen in Trumbull, the trio fell upon a unique opportunity to take over what was originally known as Carl Anthony’s Pizzeria, a casual take-out/eat-in pizza joint. Seeing a need for a more upscale restaurant in the area, they set out to create a menu, an atmosphere and an energy that would attract local diners as well as lure in food and wine enthusiasts from the surrounding communities. With trattoria now in the forefront, Sam began to work on a menu that reflected his Italian roots along with his own modern interpretations. A self taught chef, Sam’s creativity and entrepreneurial spirit are evident with every dish he prepares.
The dining room has been transformed into an intimate “modern day meets old world” trattoria. Subdue colors and banquet seating frame the entire room. Computer generated photos of the Grand Canal, scenic overviews of Venice and Rome, and a day n the life of Italian artists and merchants adorn the walls. A separate bar area , complete with a photo of the sculpture of David, serves up designer martinis, well-deserved cocktails and offers an exceptional selection of wines.. The bar opens up to a spacious outdoor patio that is shaded by huge market umbrellas, a perfect lunch setting or with candle lit tables for a romantic evening dinner which is accompanied with music on the weekends.

The former Pizza Plus has morphed into a beautiful butterfly, offering an upscale Italian menu sure to please the toughest critic. There's a buzz about Molto, the new pizzeria, mozzarella and wine bar that has opened at 1215 Post Rd.
There's something about the buzz that permeates the restaurant and wine bar as patrons enter. The atmosphere signals an upscale, trendy and comfortable establishment where people can expect great food and good service, contributing to an inviting atmosphere for patrons to relax and enjoy the experience.
In Italian, Molto means a lot, much. The name does not disappoint as there is much to enjoy. First, Molto's intent is to provide almost two environments, something one notices upon entering. On the left is a row of booths for comfortable eating and sharing a meal with friends and family. There is also groups of tables immediately inside the entrance where diners can enjoy their meals near the bright expansive windows looking out to the Post Road. Second, Molto's signature wine bar that extends 35-feet; the length of the restaurant provides seating for 17 patrons. Here, Molto's four owners, including Dan Camporeale and Nick Racanelli, spotlight their expansive showcase of 58 wines that provides the centerpiece of this establishment's blossoming reputation.
In addition to its extensive menu, Molto takes pride in its wines and the opportunity to introduce the wines to its clientele. The owners, along with its general manager Wander DeBrito, host a Wednesday Latin Night beginning at 9 p.m. to welcome patrons to an evening of music, provided by a DJ and an opportunity to taste new Latin drinks which are served with Spanish tapas. Camporeale says the Latin Nights have been well received and offer an opportunity for friends and family to gather and for people to meet new friends.
